This year’s custom laser-cut badges also double as an access card for the contest space. The badge features a contactless proximity access card based on passive RFID technology, to be used in conjunction with a custom-designed access control system modeled after many common single-factor physical access control systems used world-wide.
The students get to take the badges home with them and are provided with all the information they need to inexpensively re-create the access control system. In doing so, they can learn how to defeat and secure similar systems they may encounter throughout their career.
Be sure to check out Larry Pesce’s talk on “The Making of the CCDC Badge,” Friday, March 12 at 12:30pm.
