CCDC 2006

1st Mid-Atlantic CCDC
March 24-26, 2006 – Lancaster, PA

In the spring of 2006, 5 teams from Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania competed in the 1st Mid-Atlantic CCDC. By today’s standards, the infrastructure was simple. Each team had a router, a firewall and a small sampling of servers. Scoring was accomplished through a custom Perl script that checked network and service availability and integrity. In 2006, the teams defended a mere 7 assets including a router, firewall, servers and an IP surveillance camera, and there were only 4 Red Team (“hackers”) attacking and disrupting the students’ infrastructure.

Government

The United States Secret Service played an active role as actual law enforcement; requiring teams to conduct a live investigation with actual federal law enforcement. The Service’s presence continues to be a key element in the exercise and now requires students to fill in actual Secret Service Network Incident Reports; just as they would in real real life.
