Concurrent Session 1 and 2: Social Engineering: Deeper Than Just A Simple Hack
Presenter: Joseph Karolchik, Nteligen
Classroom: 8
Times: 1:00-2:00 PM and 2:00-3:00 PM

What do the following things have in common:

  • Email spam from an African prince asking you to assist him in transferring a fortune.
  • Warning messages from the bank asking for your account and password.
  • Installing a video codec to watch a video on an untrusted website.
  • Your Facebook friends list.
  • Your Foursquare status as Mayor.
  • Paper mail containing your name, address, and any other valid piece of information.

They all represent ways that your personal information can be used against you.  In this session, we’ll explore how social engineering uses Internet data mining, low- and no-tech hacking, and steps that can be taken to reduce the vulnerabilities.
